Creativity, Inspiration, and Self-Doubt
February 4, 2015

Throughout my life (particularly my college career), I've had people tell me the same thing, "Do what you love and you will never work a day in your life." I've been so fortunate to find a path that has become my passion. But just because you love something doesn't mean that it isn't work. In fact, I've found that my creative passion causes me to work harder than I ever would have expected to.
Creativity is a very tricky thing... If you struggle with it, don't worry. You aren't alone, and you are NOT imcompenent. We are all creative - just in different ways. The BEST thing you can do is ~EmBrAcE~ your creative side in whatever way you can, and sometimes you might surprise yourself.

When I was beginning my Senior year of college, I felt behind. As I looked at other people's skills in design and creative brainstorming, I began to wonder if this field was the right field for me, and I let that get me down. #1 - I was silly for ever second guessing myself. #2 - OF COURSE Advertising was the perfect fit for me - IT'S WHAT I LOVE!
"Passion is energy. Feel the power that comes from focusing on what excites you."
-Oprah Winfrey
As I got more confident in myself and my abilities, I realized something - Other people may be great, but that doesn't make me any less great. It just makes me different. If we all had the same skills, nothing would ever be new and exciting!!!
Every now and then, my insecurities can get the best of me. However, I have found out that after I let go of self-doubt, I allow other people's creative to INSPIRE me. THIS IS THE ABSOLUTELY BEST THING YOU CAN DO. I have been able to learn so many design techniques and creative ways of thinking from my peers, and that has made me a better creative myself! Thanks to learning from my peers, I learn new ways to challenge myself on a weekly basis. It's like my mom always says, "Jealousy is a wasted emotion." Man, is it ever...
Instead of being jealous of someone else's abilities, allow them to challenge you to better yourself. When someone comes up with something and you think, "I wish I would have thought of that," take that idea, imitate it, and find a way to make it even better, just for your personal sake! Apply this to everything you do, and one day, people will be wishing your ideas were theirs!
